Your Giving Makes a Difference

January is Human Trafficking Awareness month and one of our supported missionaries, Linley Krahel works with RAISING A VOICE in Knoxville, TN. The focus of Raising a Voice is to end human trafficking through gospel centered community transformation and global outreach to villages in Kenya, Argentina, and Rwanda, as well as helping victims/survivors in Knoxville. Your donation to the Missions Committee will allow RB Community to continue supporting Linley’s efforts. San Diego is one of the top cities in the nation where young men and women are being trafficked. Youth are being drawn to this lifestyle for money or they are being forced into it so others can make money. In the book, Ending Human Trafficking, they identify three things church congregations can do: (1) Prevention – Educate yourself and your youth to the dangers related to human trafficking. You might watch the NBC documentary Stolen or watch the recent movie being streamed Sounds of Freedom. (2) Partnership – Assist non-profits helping survivors with their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Volunteer with Alabaster Jar or Generate Hope to help individuals reclaim their lives. Pt. Loma Nazarene University has a scholarship fund (Beauty for Ashes) for survivors of human trafficking. (3) Prayer – Never underestimate the power of prayer. Pray for our youth that they will be strong, for the non-profits supporting survivors, for the first responders that try to intervene, and for the victims caught in this tangled web. If this is an issue that speaks to your heart and you would like to help bring a program to our congregation for January 2025, please email elaine@rbcommunity.org. Thank you to Connie Emarine and her crew for organizing and collecting the gifts for Angel Tree families. To Linda Tyler and her merry band of knitters for the (5) bags of hats and scarves that were given to non-profits to distribute to their clients. To the folks at Silvergate for the 200 sack lunches to Interfaith, and to the 16 individuals who served a Christmas dinner at San Diego Rescue Mission. Thank you to our sewing group for the 43 Santa Sacks that were filled with goodies for students at BLAST, a Christian based after school program at Los Pen Elementary School. Four families contacted the church for assistance during the holiday – thank you to the individuals that provided gifts and food for these families. THANK YOU to the congregation for continuing to give generously to the outreach events.
